At minimum these City Challenges will build Trust and Relationships within the team. When run as part of the Winning Teams Workshops, they will support learning for some or all aspects of the Winning Teams Framework, depending on the client's focus.
We currently offer two City Challenges - Treasure Hunts, and Team Tower
Currently available in three UK cities, our City Treasure Hunts, offer a unique opportunity to test out your teamwork, whilst having fun and learning about the city. They may be run as part of the Winning Teams Programme, focussing on all aspects of teamwork, and allowing team members to practice and be debriefed on what they have previously learned. A City Treasure Hunt takes 3-4 hours to complete, and is largely outdoors, and thus suited to the warmer, drier months of the year. An alternative for the cooler, wetter months is The Team Tower, described below.
Teams must closely manage time and resources, and make difficult decisions, drawing on their leadership, organisational and communication skills, and making best use of the skills of the different individuals within the team.
The City Treasure Hunts contain a number of different activities, from traditional clue gathering, to matching pictures to locations, to navigational challenges, to time challenges, to demonstrating creativity and thinking 'outside the box'.
Nottingham City Challenge
This City Challenge takes in the former Norman and Anglo-Saxon areas of the city, as well as selectively visiting some interesting bonus sections, fu
rther afield.
Go on, test yourself, can you identify what and where the following Nottingham picture clue is?
York City Challenge
This City Challenge travels within the city walls, with some interesting twists, and challenges to mystify and int
rigue you.
So, do you know the mystery behind the Cats, and how many of them there are in York ?
Oxford City Challenge
This City Challenge traverses this historic university city, and has a challenging option of orienteering, and one section has a particularly unusual form of navigation.
So, tell us - this symbol can be found in many places in Oxford. What is it?
Commissioning your own City Challenge
We are happy to create City Challenges in other large towns or cities in the UK. If you would like to commission one please contact us.
The Team Tower is a unique business game, aimed at improving teamwork. The activitity can be run at any major town or city in the country, including London.
Since the activity is partially indoors, it is well suited to any time of the year.
This activity especially challenges the organisational, communication and leadership skills of individuals within the team, but can be used to actively practice the messages contained in the Winning Teams Workshops.
This half day, or day long activity is managed from a central hub by the 'management team'. The team must first find answers to some questions, to work out where team members must be deployed to, in order to gather the answers to clues. The information gathered earns points for the team, which then
buy the team time to build their Team Tower.
We keep a record of the tallest tower, publicising and awarding a prize for the Tallest Team Tower, annually.

In January Lightbeam became a fully accredited Train to Gain Service Provider.
Whilst companies are often aware of Train to Gain as an initiative, they are often unaware that matched funding can also be accessed for development of personnel at management levels in SME's. Train to Gain have expanded their remit to help provide training and development at management level, as quoted in the following article http://www.dius.gov.uk/press/26-11-07.html.
"A massive boost for SME management training – the Train to Gain budget has increased from £4 million per annum to £30 million per annum, which will support some 60,000 key directors and managers in around 42,000 companies over the next three years"
In summary, this means that 50% of the training costs on our Train to Gain accredited programmes below, can be recovered by using the skills brokerage service.
Our City challenges have been accredited.
